+ Project Description
We are working with the Diocese of London on an innovative project to turn 38 of the 51 redundant church spires in the City of London into creative studio spaces for start-up businesses.
The project won first prize in the RIBA Forgotten Spaces Competition in 2011 and, to date, has seen four spires converted into functioning studios, all of which are now inhabited.
We developed the original business concept when seeking cost effective office accommodation for our creative studio, and were offered the church tower of St Mary Woolnoth, near Bank. The (In)Spires project has a thirty-year scope and will see each of these historic spaces fully 3D scanned and occupied.
Location: London, UK
Client: Diocese of London
